Miss. Jiayu Liu (b. 1990, Liaoning, China)

Lives and works in Beijing and London

MA: Royal College of Art, 2014

Known for her immersive and evocative media installations, Jiayu Liu is a media artist based in London and Beijing. She holds an MA from the Royal College of Art, dedicated to the creative practice and research of media art. Jiayu’s work reimagines the natural world, exploring the relationships between humans, nature, and the environment. By merging media, materials, and digital technologies, her immersive installations blur the boundaries between real and virtual, physical and digital. Her work uses live data streams to create communication nodes with audiences, inviting interaction and emotional engagement, making each piece continually evolve through viewer participation.

 

Rooted in Eastern poetics and philosophy, Jiayu has recently integrated AI as a creative tool to explore the interplay between humans, computer vision, and nature. Her artist AI tool, Jiayu*, seeks to reignite the aura of art in the technological era, constantly reshaping its essence.

 

She has exhibited at the Victoria & Albert Museum, Watermans Art Centre, Saatchi Gallery, Helen Hamlin Design Centre, York Art Gallery, Artsect Gallery, He Xiangning Art Museum, and K11 Art Centre. Her installations and videos have been featured internationally on CCTV-9 (CCTV Documentary channel), ITN N2K, The Art Newspaper, Dezeen, VICE, Hube, CLOT, Arduino, Designboom and Fubiz. In 2017 and 2018, it was shortlisted for the Lumen Prize and the Aesthetica Art Prize. She also participated in the 59th Venice Biennale, Manchester Art Festival, London Design Festival, London Kinetica Art Fair, London Fashion Week, Bangalore Science and Technology Arts Festival, Chengdu Biennale, Wuhan Biennale, Jinan International Biennale, Shenzhen and Hong Kong Urban Architecture Architecture Biennale and Hong Kong and Macao Visual Arts Biennale, Beijing Media Art Biennale, Guangzhou Triennale, etc.

She also has collaborated with many world-known brands, BVLGARI, Burberry, Lotus, and some art commission projects for public spaces work with organizations: WWF, Green Peace, and Invisible Dust UK.
