Still Garden #1 静花园 #1
The Still Garden #1 series draws inspiration from Flowers in the Mirror, a fictional novel written by Li Ruzhen, a Qing dynasty literatus, during the Jiaqing reign. Renowned for its nonlinear and fantastical narrative structure, the text’s unpredictable scene transitions resonate with the associative logic of language generation in artificial intelligence.
Through Jiayu*, a multimodal AI system developed by the artist’s team based on the Transformer architecture, narrative traces are deconstructed and translated into three-dimensional spatial coordinates. The training dataset comprises 3D spatial environments created in the artist’s earlier works, serving as a latent space of "spatial memory" for the machine. Based on this learned memory, the AI generates new coordinate outputs, which are visualized using Houdini algorithms that simulate particle dynamics to form continuously evolving virtual landscapes.
This work reflects machine cognition's non-linear logic and traces fictional texts' narrative quality through the fluid interplay of semantics and metaphor. It attempts to reveal a machine-specific worldbuilding — one shaped through language, memory, and generation — offering the audience an insight into emerging perceptual systems and aesthetics born from human–machine collaboration.
