Still Garden

The Still Garden series draws inspiration from the nonlinear and fantastical narrative structure of the Qing Dynasty novel Flowers in the Mirror.  Known for its unpredictable scene transitions, the novel resonates with the generative randomness of AI’s imagination.  Using Jiayu*, a self-developed multimodal AI system based on the Transformer model, the project is based on a training dataset made from 3D scenes created by the artist in earlier works. The AI learns from these spatial memories and generates outputs as three-dimensional coordinates, building new virtual spaces. These are then visualized through Houdini algorithms that simulate particle motion, constructing dynamic, evolving landscapes.  The resulting digital terrains mirror both the nonlinear thinking of the machine and the narrative nature of fictional texts, forming a dialogue between machine-generated forms and language.

The work explores how machine perception of the world can be reimagined through text. By shifting from visual surfaces to language, the project examines how AI might create its own worldview—one that interprets space and memories not just as images, but through words and symbolic structures. It reflects on the possibility of machines developing a new way of understanding the world, shaped by language and imagination.
